The site will feature a bevy of restaurants and outdoor shops

Big things are in the works at the Brea Mall. The Simon Property Group, who own the site, are planning to redevelop the shuttered Sears Complex at 1065 Brea Mall and convert it to a 380-unit urban-retail village.

According to a report from The Real Deal, The Simon group has undertaken plans to overhaul the “162,000-square-foot wing formerly occupied by Sears, an associated auto center and a 7.5-acre parking lot…The project was unanimously approved by the Brea Planning Commission in December and will be presented to the City Council at an upcoming meeting for final approval.”

In addition to the 380 rental residential units, the site will feature a bevy of restaurants and outdoor shops. No specific vendors have been locked down yet, but the diverse selection of offerings found at the rest of the thriving Brea Mall might provide some inspiration.

The Simon Group, an Indiana-based mall developer, operates an extensive catalogue of properties, including quite a few here in Orange County, like the Outlets at Orange.
