Matty’s Patty’s Burger Club, the brainchild of celebrity chef Matty Matheson and RVCA founder Pat Tenore, will open its second location in the former home of Costa Mesa’s Oh Those Donuts at 1734 Newport Blvd, hopefully by year’s end according to Tenore.

Tenore tells What Now Orange County that they’re currently waiting on permits from the city, which will be followed by roughly six to eight months of work, but that they’re “trying to push the opening for the holidays,” adding, “We’re excited to serve the community and be neighbors with our friends at Harper Barbecue.”

The humble origins of Matty’s Patty’s Burger Club can be traced back to the annual RVCAloha event in Hawaii, where Matheson and Tenore would dish out free burgers and “[give back to the community.”

However, the concept really took shape in Toronto in December 2020 when the team opened the first Matty’s Patty’s Burger Club. Having ostensibly started its life in Hawaii, Matheson told Toronto Life at the time, “I came back to Toronto because this is where it all began. This city gave me everything and this is where I grew my career.”

While the restaurant specializes in the increasingly popular smash-style of hamburger, its menu is decidedly simple and to the point; single to triple patty cheeseburgers made with AAA beef or an Impossible burger, as well as a signature favorite, The Matty, made with a seven-ounce patty, mustard sauce, American cheese, white onion, and pickles on a sesame seed milk bun.
