Wanderlust Creamery, an L.A.-based ice cream company known for flavors such as White Rabbit and Kinder, has something churning in Orange County. The shop is coming soon to 14413 Culver Dr. at the Walnut Village Center in Irvine, according to Irvine Company which owns the shopping plaza.
The artisanal ice cream shop was founded by Adrienne Borlongan and Jon-Patrick Lopez, who created the brand inspired by their own feelings of wanderlust. With the goal of globalizing local palates, they’ve created unique yet familiar ice cream flavors that are reminiscent of the places they’ve traveled to or want to go.
Wanderlust Creamery is consistently rated among the top ice cream spots in Los Angeles, lauded for their unexpected flavor combinations and creamy texture made with high quality ingredients. Their signature flavors include Vietnamese Rocky Road and Ube Malted Krunch.
“When we first opened, people asked for an ube ice cream, but ube just isn’t novel or inspirational to me. If I were to do an ube cream, it’d be my own rendition. I didn’t want to replicate an authentic ube ice cream. Instead, I wanted to capture ube in a way that also reflected my American upbringing,” says Borlongan on their website.
They also create seasonal flavors that transport customers to a different time and/or place throughout the year. Recently, they’ve gained popularity for a White Rabbit flavor, inspired by the Shanghainese milk candy of the same name.
