Leasing negotiations are ongoing between the corporation and the owner of the commercial center, reports state. Chick-fil-A is seeking permission to replace a building that formerly housed the California Nurses Educational Institute at The Springs shopping center, with a nearly 6,000 square-foot structure featuring a three-lane drive-thru.

But news that the business is looking to build has already stirred up controversy in the community. Many have voiced concerns about welcoming Chick-fil-A, which has shown support to anti-LGBTQ+ organizations, into the gay-friendly city. Others are worried about traffic impacts.

If the deal goes through and the chicken chain is able to proceed, this will be its second location in the desert. Coachella Valley’s first Chick-fil-A opened in the summer of 2022 in Palm Desert on Dinah Shore Drive.
