This will be the coffee house’s third location – or fourth if you include the coffee cart available at the Jean-Michel Basquiat KING PLEASURE Exhibition in Los Angeles. Sip & Sonder is owned by Amanda-Jane Thomas and Shanita Nicholas. The two became friends in law school, and eventually joined forces for the creation of this business in 2017. Now, the Black women-owned coffee brand has reached a global audience with its unique roasts and beautifully branded digital content.
The website explains the name, defining ‘sonder’ as the realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own. The name is a perfect match for the shop’s vibe and purpose, which the website explains as “entrepreneurial and creative hubs where creatives, entrepreneurs, freelancers, curators, and everyone in between can simply exist, grab a cup of coffee, connect, create, and put sonder into action.”
Sip & Sonder’s selection of coffee, tea, drinkware, apparel and more is available at www.sipandsonder.com.
