If you’ve been to The 908 in Long Beach, then you’re familiar with owners Ciaran Gough, Juan Carlos Guerra and Todd Miller’s collective ability to take classic American comfort food to the next level. Whereas The 908 is lauded as “A Restaurant Created in Long Beach for The People of Long Beach,” the team’s upcoming sister restaurant will aim to do the same for Irvine

The Goldfinch is getting ready to open at 2010 Main St. in a buzzy business corridor near John Wayne Airport. The new restaurant will be in a neighborhood that also includes Sol Mexican Cocina, Paderia Bakehouse, Hangar 24 — to name a few — plus Porch & Swing, which will be next door.

On the menu will be seasonal plates and mainstays that showcase the best of California cuisine, in addition to a craft beverage program that includes Ales, Lagers, and cocktails. The best time to visit, of course, will be Happy Hour on weekdays from 3 to 6 p.m.

The space itself is inspired by the sleek and simple elegance of the Irvine neighborhood that The Goldfinch will call home. In collaboration with local architects at Robinson Hill, Gough, Guerra and Miller were hands on in designing a space that was both functional and chic.

In a phone call with What Now Orange County, Gough says that although it’s considered The 908’s sister restaurant, he believes The Goldfinch will stand as its own entity based on the design alone. Renderings of the space suggest that this will certainly be a favorite post-work spot among locals when it opens this fall.
