Founded by cousins Isaias Ocampo Brito, Angel Bahena and Daniel Brito, the fast-casual concept was inspired by the colors, art, music and culture of El Dia de Los Muertos. The family pays homage to the tradition through the colorful decor, music and of course, a robust drinks and food menu.

Inspired by urban mixology, their cocktail menu showcases fresh herbs, infusions and homemade syrups, while the food reflects a deep passion for traditional Mexican and Latin American cuisine. Using generations-old recipes, customers indulge in sizzling plates of barbacoa, carnitas, enchiladas and more.

“This is the future of Mexican restaurants,” Ocampo Brito tells OC Register. “It’s a restaurant that every city needs. It’s popping with bright colors, music and not just traditional Mexican food, but with more of a twist.” In addition to Orange County, the family has plans to expand Kalaveras throughout Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino counties.

In a phone call with What Now Orange County, Daniel Brito confirmed that the Newport Beach and Orange restaurants will be grand opening this fall, but did not yet disclose the locations. The Fullerton restaurant will likely open in 2023.
