A new family-focused café is coming to the Brea Mall, according to records filed with the county. Check N’ Play, the brainchild of Steffanie Balsells, will provide a space where kids can play and guardians can have a beverage or bite to eat.
The concept will feature a carefully crafted playroom designed by Groh Playrooms, catering to children aged 6 and under and offering an imaginative space for creativity and exploration. There will also be the Check N’ Play Cafe, a specialty coffee bar offering java drinks, teas, pastries, light snacks, and shareable bites for guests of all ages.
“Check N’ Play is where playtime meets quality time,” says Balsells, “The heart of our mission is to create a space that fosters family bonding and community connections.”
For larger gatherings, the business offers two versatile spaces that can be joined together, perfect for events such as birthday parties, parenting workshops, or seasonal pop-ups. The business’s anticipated opening is scheduled for Summer 2025, and hiring will begin approximately two months before that.
The idea for Check N’ Play was born out of Steffanie Balsells’ personal experiences as a mother. She wanted to create a space that would serve as a support system for families, offering a place where parents and children alike could thrive. It’s been a dream in the making since 2022.
